Starry Magic

Starry Magic

This tut was written by me, Em Jay, on 8-30-2010 with all rights reserved.  Please do not copy and paste it in any group or call it your own. You can link to it using a text link to my blog.

This tut is written using EmJay Scraps’ contribution to the beautiful collaborative kit called It’s a Kind of Magic which is free to use for a limited time with a minimum purchase from Heartbeatz Creationz.  It was written using PSPX, but is adaptable to any version and is for people with a good working knowledge of PSP.

Supplies: The mask used is  sg_starfadeborder by EssexGirl which can be downloaded here: http://www.essexgirl.uk.com/sg_masksp12.htm

Open a new image 550 by 550 and fill with white. Select all and add new raster layer. C/P iakom_paper14 into selection. Select none.  Load the mask and then merge group.

Open iakom_frame5 and resize to 70%. C/P as a new layer. Using the magic wand, select inside the frame, selection/modify/expand 6. Add new raster layer. C/P iakom_paper12 into selection, select none.  Drag this layer below the frame, reduce opacity to 65, merge down. Keeping this layer highlighted, C/P iakom_starspatter as a new layer. Some of it will be under, but outside of the frame. That is fine. Position it where you want it, duplicate and merge down.  This will brighten the stars a bit.  Add a drop shadow. Open iakom_sequinspatter and resize to 60%. C/P it as a new layer and position it on the top right of the tag.

Highlight the frame layer.  C/P iakom_curlyribbon03 and position it along the right side of the frame.  Add a drop shadow.  Now take the eraser tool set to about 10, opacity 100 and erase parts of the ribbon so that it looks like it is wrapping around the frame.

With the frame layer highlighter, open iakom_orchids02 and resize to 60%. C/P as a new layer on the bottom left of the frame.  Duplicate, mirror and move this layer further up the left side of the frame as shown in the sample image.  Once you have both layers how you want them, merge the top one down, add a drop shadow. Open iakom_orchids01 and resize to 30%. C/P as a new layer and position it on the top left of the frame, duplicate twice, mirror one of the duplicated layers and position them somewhere on the top left of the frame.  Once you have these how you want them, merge the top one down and then merge down again.  Add a drop shadow. Open iakom_orchids04 and resize to 50%, duplicate once and mirror.  Arrange these two layers somewhere on the bottom right of the frame.  Merge the top layer down and drag this layer under the ribbon.  Add a drop shadow. Open iakom_crystalball and resize to 50%. C/P it on the lower left of the frame. Add a drop shadow.

Open iakom_stringofbeads and resize to 80%. C/P it as a new layer and position along the bottom of the tag over the crystal ball. Duplicate, flip, mirror. Drag this second layer under the small orchids layer.  Add a drop shadow to both of the stringofbeads layers.

C/P iakom_starcluster and position it on the top right of the tag.  Drag this layer below the ribbon. I had to erase the bottom right star from the cluster so that it fit better on my tag. Add a drop shadow. Open iakom_starbutton02 and 03. Resize them to 30%. C/P them here and there along the sides of your frame. Duplicate them as many times as you want. Once you have them where you want them, add a drop shadow.

You should have before you now a beautiful tagback.  It’s time to add the focus tube. I used a beautiful image by Nico Niemi. Please do not use this image unless you have permission to do so.  It is a group permission image which means that a group I belong to has permission to use her work for personal use.  And to gain that permission yourself, you can either write to the artist personally or become a member of Shewolf’s_Domain2_Lightside.  I highly recommend that you become a member of this wonderful copyright-compliant tube sharing group if you aren’t already.  You will gain access to many beautiful tubes that only members of this group can use.

I copied and pasted this focus tube and dragged the layer below the crystal ball. I erased the small part of the ribbon which was over her wing. Add a drop shadow. Open iakom_magicwand and resize to 50%.  C/P it as a new layer and using the deform tool, rotate it a little to the left as shown on the sample. Add a drop shadow.
Erase the portion of the wand that is over her hand which makes it look like she is holding it.

Now it’s time to add your text, watermark and copyright information.  The font I used is called Candlemas.  You can merge visible and export as a jpeg and you’re done!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!

Bees Bees

Bees Bees
This tut was written by me, Em Jay, on 8-2-2010 with all rights reserved.  Please do not copy and paste it in any group or call it your own. You can link to it using a text link to my blog.

This tut is written using a fun, colorful kit created by me, EmJay Scraps   called Summertime Blooms which can be purchased at Heartbeatz Creations.   It was written using PSPX, but is adaptable to any version and is for people with a good working knowledge of PSP.

No added supplies needed.

Let’s get started!

Open paper15 and resize to 550 x 550. Open doodle01 and resize to 80%. C/P as a new layer and move it to the top left of the tag. Duplicate this layer and resize just this second doodle layer to 80%. Mirror and move it to where it looks like an added extension to the first doodle.  Drag it below the first doodle. Add a nice drop shadow to each layer.

Open largenetting01 and resize to 80%.  Mirror and c/p as a new layer and position it on the bottom of the tag a little to the left. Add a drop shadow.

C/P flower8 as a new layer and move it to the bottom of the tag over the right side of the trellis. C/P flower7 as a new layer. Rotate it slightly to the left. Drag this flower under the first one and position it so that the stem pretty much blends into the stems of the first flower. Add a drop shadow to both layers.

Make your image window larger both on the side and bottom. We’ll need extra room to work on when using the warp brush. Set the size of your warp brush to about 450 and the warp mode is the first option which is the arrow pointing to the left.  Highlight the first flower layer with the two daisies and starting at the lower right of the image just over the bottom stem move your warp brush slowly to the left.  You will see the stem start to curve to the left. This will just curve the stem instead of rotating which would rotate the whole flower. When you have it how you like it click on the green check apply button on the tool bar. Using the eraser tool set to 4pix, erase the part of the stem which is over the trellis.

Open swarmingbees2 and resize to 80%. C/P as new layer over the daisies on the right. I erased a few of the bees on the right side to make it fit my image better. Add a drop shadow.

You can now add your focus tube.  I used the beautiful cookie, Candy Fae, made by Lisa of Sophisticated Scraps. You, of course, can use whatever tube you want. C/P the tube and move it down to the bottom of the tag. Add a drop shadow.

Let’s decorate the left side of our tag now. Open flower1, 3 and 9. Resize them to 80%. C/P each one on a new layer and position them on the left of the tag. You can drag the layers below your tube or leave them on top of your tube however you like. Add a drop shadow to each flower.
Open butterfly1 and resize to 60%. Position it over one of your flowers.  I mirrored mine.  Add a drop shadow.

Highlight your bottom paper layer. Using your deform tool resize it to more fit your tag.  While still on this background layer, use the crop tool and under the option to snap crop rectangle to, select the middle button which is layer opaque. Double left click to crop. Merge visible.
It’s time to add your text, watermark and copyright information. And you’re done!

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial.

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween

This tut was written by me, Em Jay, on 7-23-2010 with all rights reserved.  Please do not copy and paste it in any group or call it your own. You can link to it using a text link to my blog.
This tut is written using a whimsical Halloween kit created by me, EmJay Scraps   called Halloween Fun which can be purchased at Heartbeatz Creations.   It was written using PSPX, but is adaptable to any version and is for people with a good working knowledge of PSP.
Supplies: WSL_Mask 249 which can be downloaded here. Scroll down the page a little and you will see the download links for all her masks on the right.

Let’s get started!

Open an image 600 x 600. Open hf_frame07 and resize to 80%. C/P as new layer. Take your selection tool and make a selection around the frame making sure you do not cut off the torn edges. Selection/modify/expand 8. Add new raster layer and c/p hf_paper18 into selection.  Drag this layer under the frame. Add a drop shadow to the frame.

C/P a nice halloween focus tube around the lower left side of the frame.  I used an awesome image by an artist that I have a group permission to use which is ©Sulev Daekazu http://daekazu.deviantart.com.  Please do not use this image unless you have permission to do so.  You can use a focus tube of your choice with very similar results.

Open hf_spiderweb and c/p it as a new layer. Drag this layer under the frame layer.  Open hf_spider01 and c/p as a new layer, resize, position and rotate to how you want it with the deform tool. Open hf_bat and c/p it as a new layer that is above the frame layer.  Position it how you want it.

Open hf_pumpkin02, hf_pumpkin03 and hf_jackolantern01 and c/p them each on its own layer. Position, resize and rotate them with the deform tool.  Once you have them how you want them, add a drop shadow to each pumpkin layer.
Open hf_blackbird01 and resize to 25%. C/P as a new layer and position the bird somewhere near your focus tube like I have mine.  Yours will be different if you use a different tube.  Duplicate the bird layer and image/mirror. Move this second bird so it looks like it’s standing on one of the pumpkins.

Now open hf_curlystring04. Take the selection tool and make a selection around the last three loops of that string.  Edit/copy, paste as a new layer on your image. Move this string to the top of one of the pumpkins. Add a drop shadow and then duplicate the layer. Closing off the duplicated layer highlight the first string layer and erase that part of the string that is over the pumpkin stem so that it looks like it is coming from behind the stem and wrapping to the front of the pumpkin.  You can resize as needed with the deform tool to make it how you want it.  Open the top duplicated layer and move it to on top of a second pumpkin and again erase the part that is over the stem.

These are all of the elements I used for my sample, but feel free to add anything else you want to.  Once you have the image how you want it, close off the bottom layer and merge visible. I resized only my image layer to 95 percent and centered it by using the CenterLayer script that is default in psp.

Highlightt the bottom layer, select all, add new raster layer. C/P hf_paper20 into selection. Select none.
Add the WSL_Mask 249 to this new paper layer. Use your deform tool and while holding down the shift button, move the top center node to the left a little and also move the bottom center node to the right a little. This will just add a little more color to your tag and, I think, finishes it off nicely. Merge visible.

It’s time now to add your text, watermark and copyright information and you’re done. The font I used for the name is called Ziggy Zoe.

Easy_peasy tutorial, hope you liked it!

Paint a Pretty Picture

Paint a Pretty Picture

This tut was written by me, Em Jay, on 7-9-10 with all rights reserved.  Please do not copy and paste it in any group or call it your own. You can link to it using a text link to my blog.

This tut is written using a beautiful PTU kit created by Stacie Cakes  called Secret Garden which can be purchased here at Heartbeatz Store.   It was written using PSPX, but is adaptable to any version and is for people with a good working knowledge of PSP.

No added supplies needed.

Open a new image 550 by 550. Resize sc_frame2 to 80% and c/p it as a new layer. Using the magic wand, click inside the frame.  Selection/modify/expand 2. Pick a paper of your choice. I used sc_paper5. Add new raster layer, copy the paper and paste inside selection.  Drag this paper layer down under the frame.

Open sc_rainbow and resize to 60%.  C/P as new layer and position it under the flower border of the frame.  Drag this layer under the frame.

Open sc_river and resize to about 50%. Now we want the river to lay a bit flat so we need to add some perspective.  C/P the river as a new layer and drag it to just above the paper layer.  Click on the deform tool and while holding the control key, drag the bottom right corner to the right.  You will see both sides of the image expanding outward.  Now let go of the control key and place the cursor on the top of the node on the top of the image in the middle and push the image down.  By doing this you should be seeing the river look more like its laying flat.  Double click on the image to reset the deform tool.  If you want the river to lie even flatter, just repeat the steps above.

Open one of the trees.  I used sc_tree3.  Resize to 30% and c/p it as a new layer. Position the tree where you want it.  Duplicate this layer as many times as you would like to add trees to your picture, resizing and position them with the deform tool.  Add a nice drop shadow on each tree.

Open both sc_dragonfly1 and 2 and resize to 20%.  C/P each as a new layer, position, rotate and resize further if needed with the deform tool.  Add as many dragonflies that you want.  Add a drop shadow to each one.

Open sc_flower3 and 5 a resize to 40%. C/P them here and there over the flowers on the frame.  This will give the frame a more 3D look. Add as many as you want and don’t forget to add a drop shadow on each flower.

Open one of the bows and resize it to 50%. C/P it as a new layer and position it over the left top corner of the frame. Add a drop shadow.

Open one of the posers supplied in the kit or use a focus tube of your choice.  I used sc_mediposer5 which is ©Medievil Creations http://medievilcreations.blogspot.com/.  Position the tube somewhere on the lower right of the image and add a drop shadow. Add your text, watermark and copyright information then you’re done!

Rock Roll 'n Stuff

Rock Roll ‘n Stuff

This tut was written by me, Em Jay, on 6-4-10 with all rights reserved.  Please do not copy and paste it in any group, any website, or call it your own. You can link to it using a text link to my blog.

This tut is written using a PTU kit designed by Brandies Eye Candies called 501 Grunge which can be purchased here at Wilma4Ever Store.   It was written using PSPX, but is adaptable to any version and is for people with a good working knowledge of PSP.

No outside filters needed.

Open a new image 550 by 550. Resize EJ_PP12 to 58% and c/p it as a new layer, duplicate.  Highlight bottom paper layer, Effects/Texture Effects/Mosaic-Antique with these settings Grid Settings 52, symmetric is checked, Mosaic Settings 31, 5, 33. Highlight the top paper layer, Effects/Texture Effects/Texture with these settings  Canvas course, size 100, Image 0,2,0,0, Color white, 315, 30, 50. Merge down.

Resize EJ_splatter to 60%, c/p as a new layer; position/rotate/resize as needed with the deform tool, duplicate and position/rotate/resize to cover a bit more of the paper area, merge down, sharpen once.

Resize EJ_frame7 to 68%, duplicate. Highlight top frame layer and add a drop shadow with these settings- Vertical/horizontal 1, Opacity 100, Blur 1.0, pick a very light color from your tube for the color. Repeat drop shadow changing Vertical/horizontal to -1. Highlight the bottom frame layer, Effects/Texture Effects/Mosaic-Antique.  Use the same settings as above except change the grid settings to 34. Now use your deform tool to resize this layer just a bit so that it fits inside of the top frame. Merge the top frame layer down.

Open EJ_skull5 and resize to 40%. C/P as a new layer, move it to the top left of the tag and rotate it to the left a bit using the deform tool. Add drop shadow. Open EJ_frame9 and resize to 60%, move it so that it circles skull 5. Add a drop shadow. Open EJ_bow5 and resize to 60%, c/p as a new layer and move and rotate using the deform tool on the lower left of the tag, add a drop shadow.

Add your focus tube on a new layer and add a drop shadow.  I used a cute goth rocker tube I have permission to use which is ©Ismael Alvarez, www.ismaelalvarez.com. Please do not use his artwork unless you have permission to do so.  You can always use a tube of your own choosing.

Open EJ_musicnote3 and EJ_star2. Resize both to 60%. C/P the note as a new layer, duplicate and merge down, add a drop shadow.  Do the same with the start.  Now you can duplicate each of these elements as many times as you would like and just arrange them here and there on your tag.  Use your deform tool to resize further and rotate if needed.

It’s time to add your text.  I used a font called Cocktail with a very light color as my foreground color for the outline with stroke set to 1. The background was made using a gradient with two colors from my image. Once you have your text how you like it, add a drop shadow.  Add your watermark and copyright information, export as a jpeg and you’re done!

I hoped you enjoyed this tut!

Midsummer's Fairy

Midsummer’s Fairy

This tut was written by me, Em Jay, on 5-28-10 with all rights reserved.  Please do not copy and paste it in any group or call it your own. You can link to it using a text link to my blog.

This tut is written using a kit included in the Midsummer’s Dreams Collab created by Addictive Pleasures.  The Collab Kit can be yours free for a limited time with a minimum purchase at Heartbeatz Store.  The tutorial was written using PSPX, but is adaptable to any version and is for people with a good working knowledge of PSP.

Supplies
WSL_Mask254 which can be downloaded here. Scroll down a bit and the links are on the right.

Open a new image 550 by 550, fill with white. Add new raster layer, select all, c/p paper p5 into selection. Add mask. Duplicate layer, Adjust/Hue and Saturation/Hue Saturation Lightness, saturation 33.  Use the deformation tool to resize this layer a little smaller. Click on the dropdown script menu and select the default script CenterLayer. Merge down.

C/P your focus tube as a new layer. Add a nice drop shadow.   I used a pretty fairy tube ©Cathy Delanssay with permission. Please do not use her artwork if you do not have permission to do so.  Feel free to use a tube of your own choosing.  Move the tube to the bottom of the mask layer.  For the tube I used, I highlighted the mask layer, select all, float, defloat.  Highlighted the tube layer, selection/invert, delete.

Open the clock element, resize to 60%, c/p it as a new layer on the top left of the tag. Open the bubble element, resize to 50%, c/p as a new layer and position it over the clock, merge down. Add a drop shadow to the clock. Drag this layer below the tube layer if it overlaps.

Open the rainbow and resize to 60%.  C/P as a new layer over the clock layer.  Using the deform tool and hold the shift key, drag the right middle node down making the rainbow look like it’s on a slight angle. Position the rainbow making sure that the right and left sides are at the edges of the mask.

Open the stars element, resize to 70%, drag below the tube layer.  Position the stars where you want them using the deform tool.  Duplicate layer and position it below the first bunch of stars.  I then used my eraser tool and erased some of the stars that were not fully shown because of being behind the clock or tube. Once you have your stars placed where you want them, merge the top stars layer down.  Add a drop shadow.

Highlight the top layer of your tag.  Open the umbrella element and resize to 60%.  C/P as a new layer on the bottom right of the tag, add a drop shadow.  Open the element ribbonandbow, resize to 70%, move it to the top of the tag, add a drop shadow. Open flowerribbon and resize to 30%, c/p as a new layer, duplicate three times. Position and resize these flowers here and there on the tag using the deform tool. Highlight the top flowerribon and merge down three times, add a drop shadow.

Now you can add your text, watermark and copyright information and you’re done!

Fallen Into Darkness

Fallen Into Darkness

This tut was written by me, Em Jay, on 5-19-10 with all rights reserved.  Please do not copy and paste it in any group, any website, or call it your own. You can link to it using a text link to my blog.

This tut is written using a PTU kit created by Angel’s Designs called Broken Halo which can be purchased here at Underground Scraps.   It was written using PSPX, but is adaptable to any version and is for people with a good working knowledge of PSP.

Supplies

Artmama Mask 10 which can be downloaded here.

I used the artwork © Bez Boardman. Please do not use her artwork unless you have permission to do so.  Feel free to use a tube of your choice.

Open new image 550 by 550, fill with white. Add new raster layer, select all, c/p BH_Paper6 into selection. Add ArtmamaMask 10, merge group. C/P BH_Mesh as a new layer, change blend mode to Burn. C/P BH_GlitterSpill1 as a new layer and drag it below the mask layer.

C/P the focus tube you choose to use as a new layer and position it where you want it.  C/P BH_RedWings as a new layer and drag it below the focus tube.  Resize, rotate and position the wings with the deform tool. Highlight the focus tube layer and merge down.  Add a drop shadow.

C/P BH_WordArt1 as a new layer. Position, resize and rotate it with the deform tool. Open BH_PentagramWChain and resize to 25%. Position it to look like it’s hanging from the left side of the wordart. You may have to erase some of the top part of the chain to make it show like you want it.  Duplicate twice and position these two chains the same way. Highlight the WordArt layer and merge down 3 times.

Open BH_SkullBook and resize to 60%. C/P as a new layer and move it to the bottom right of the image, rotating it slightly to the left with the deform tool.  Open BH_Skull1, resize to 30%. C/P it as a new layer, postiion, rotate and resize if needed to fit on the page of the book.  Once you have it how you want it, change the blend mode to Overlay and reduce the opacity to 50. Open BH_Bottle1, resize to 20%, c/p as new layer and position it by the book, drag the layer below the book layer. Open BH_Potion, resize to 60%, c/p as a new layer and position it on the bottom of the book somewhere. Open BH_Lamp1, resize to 50%, c/p it somewhere on the bottom of the tag and use the deform tool to rotate it a little to the left. Open BH_Lamp2, resize to 30%, c/p it as a new layer and position it on the bottom of the tag somewhere. Add a drop shadow to each one of the element layers.

Open BH_Candle1, resize to 20%.  Open BH_Candle2, resize to 15%. Open BH_Clothsack, resize to 40%.  C/P all three of these elements as new layers and position them where you want them.  Add a drop shadow to each layer.  Open BH_Bead 1, 4, and 5. Resize them all to 30%.  C/P them as new layers near the bag, duplicating the layers to add as many more beads as you like.  Resize and rotate then using the deform tool.  Once you have them all where you want them, highlight the top bead layer and merge down as many times to get them all on one layer. Adjust/sharpen once and add a drop shadow.  C/P BH_BrokenHeart4 as a new layer and position it on the right top of the tag, rotating a little bit to the left.  Add a drop shadow.

Now you can add your text. The font I used is called DivineRight.  Add your watermark and copyright information.  You’re done!

Hope you enjoyed this tut.
