Starry Magic

Starry Magic

This tut was written by me, Em Jay, on 8-30-2010 with all rights reserved.  Please do not copy and paste it in any group or call it your own. You can link to it using a text link to my blog.

This tut is written using EmJay Scraps’ contribution to the beautiful collaborative kit called It’s a Kind of Magic which is free to use for a limited time with a minimum purchase from Heartbeatz Creationz.  It was written using PSPX, but is adaptable to any version and is for people with a good working knowledge of PSP.

Supplies: The mask used is  sg_starfadeborder by EssexGirl which can be downloaded here: http://www.essexgirl.uk.com/sg_masksp12.htm

Open a new image 550 by 550 and fill with white. Select all and add new raster layer. C/P iakom_paper14 into selection. Select none.  Load the mask and then merge group.

Open iakom_frame5 and resize to 70%. C/P as a new layer. Using the magic wand, select inside the frame, selection/modify/expand 6. Add new raster layer. C/P iakom_paper12 into selection, select none.  Drag this layer below the frame, reduce opacity to 65, merge down. Keeping this layer highlighted, C/P iakom_starspatter as a new layer. Some of it will be under, but outside of the frame. That is fine. Position it where you want it, duplicate and merge down.  This will brighten the stars a bit.  Add a drop shadow. Open iakom_sequinspatter and resize to 60%. C/P it as a new layer and position it on the top right of the tag.

Highlight the frame layer.  C/P iakom_curlyribbon03 and position it along the right side of the frame.  Add a drop shadow.  Now take the eraser tool set to about 10, opacity 100 and erase parts of the ribbon so that it looks like it is wrapping around the frame.

With the frame layer highlighter, open iakom_orchids02 and resize to 60%. C/P as a new layer on the bottom left of the frame.  Duplicate, mirror and move this layer further up the left side of the frame as shown in the sample image.  Once you have both layers how you want them, merge the top one down, add a drop shadow. Open iakom_orchids01 and resize to 30%. C/P as a new layer and position it on the top left of the frame, duplicate twice, mirror one of the duplicated layers and position them somewhere on the top left of the frame.  Once you have these how you want them, merge the top one down and then merge down again.  Add a drop shadow. Open iakom_orchids04 and resize to 50%, duplicate once and mirror.  Arrange these two layers somewhere on the bottom right of the frame.  Merge the top layer down and drag this layer under the ribbon.  Add a drop shadow. Open iakom_crystalball and resize to 50%. C/P it on the lower left of the frame. Add a drop shadow.

Open iakom_stringofbeads and resize to 80%. C/P it as a new layer and position along the bottom of the tag over the crystal ball. Duplicate, flip, mirror. Drag this second layer under the small orchids layer.  Add a drop shadow to both of the stringofbeads layers.

C/P iakom_starcluster and position it on the top right of the tag.  Drag this layer below the ribbon. I had to erase the bottom right star from the cluster so that it fit better on my tag. Add a drop shadow. Open iakom_starbutton02 and 03. Resize them to 30%. C/P them here and there along the sides of your frame. Duplicate them as many times as you want. Once you have them where you want them, add a drop shadow.

You should have before you now a beautiful tagback.  It’s time to add the focus tube. I used a beautiful image by Nico Niemi. Please do not use this image unless you have permission to do so.  It is a group permission image which means that a group I belong to has permission to use her work for personal use.  And to gain that permission yourself, you can either write to the artist personally or become a member of Shewolf’s_Domain2_Lightside.  I highly recommend that you become a member of this wonderful copyright-compliant tube sharing group if you aren’t already.  You will gain access to many beautiful tubes that only members of this group can use.

I copied and pasted this focus tube and dragged the layer below the crystal ball. I erased the small part of the ribbon which was over her wing. Add a drop shadow. Open iakom_magicwand and resize to 50%.  C/P it as a new layer and using the deform tool, rotate it a little to the left as shown on the sample. Add a drop shadow.
Erase the portion of the wand that is over her hand which makes it look like she is holding it.

Now it’s time to add your text, watermark and copyright information.  The font I used is called Candlemas.  You can merge visible and export as a jpeg and you’re done!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
