Mardi Gras Chaos

Mardi Gras Chaos

This tut was written by me, Em Jay, on 2-12-10 with all rights reserved.  Please do not copy and paste it in any group or call it your own. You can link to it using a text link to my blog.

This tut is written using a very colorful PTU kit created by Katelynns Designs called Mardi Gras Chaos which can be purchased here   It was written using PSP9, but is adaptable to any version and is for people with a good working knowledge of PSP and Animation Shop.

The focus tube I used is from AusPosers and can be downloaded from here on Page 13.  Or you can use your own choice of tubes.

Other needed supplies: Here

Open a new image 500 x 500 and flood fill it with white. Select all, add new raster layer. Open Mardi Gras Chaos_Paper15, copy/paste into selection, select none. Apply the mask that was supplied, merge group, merge visible.

We will be working with a template by Bittersweet Designs today.  Open the template in PSP, shift D to copy it and close the original.

Highlight Layer 5, copy and paste as new layer onto your image. Select all/float/defloat/modify/expand 1, open Paper11, copy/paste into selection, select none, add a nice drop shadow.

Highlight Layer 4, copy and paste as new layer. Select all/float/defloat/modify/expand 1, open Paper12, copy/paste into selection, select
none.

Highlight Layer 3, copy and paste as new layer. Select all/float/defloat/modify/expand 1, open Paper05, copy/paste into selection, select none.

Highlight Layer 2, copy and paste as new layer. Select all/float/defloat/modify/expand 1, open Paper18, copy/paste into selection, select none, add a nice drop shadow.

Highlight Layer 1, copy and paste as new layer. Select all/float/defloat/modify/expand 1, open Paper14, copy/paste into selection, select none, add a nice drop shadow.

Resize your tube if you have to and copy/paste it as a new layer. Duplicate it. Add a drop shadow to the bottom tube layer only. Highlight the third layer and take your magic wand and click outside of the circle. Now highlight your second layer and click delete. Take your freehand selection tool set on point to point and draw around the bottom of the top tube layer and a little bit inside of the circle, click delete.  The top part of your tube should be overlapping the circle a bit.

Open the color of bow you want to use, image/resize 10 percent. Copy/paste the bow as a new layer. Use the deform tool to rotate it to the left about 35 degrees.  Hold the shift key while you position the corners of the bow to be as close to the circle’s edges as you can get them. Add a drop shadow.

Open two wine glasses.  I used wineglasses01 and 02.  Image/resize 22 percent, copy/paste each one on its own layer. Use the deform tool and rotate one to the left and one to the right about 25 degrees, move them into position, then merge the top layer down, add a light drop shadow.

Open ball_masks02, resize 40 percent, drag the layer right below your top focus tube layer, add a nice drop shadow. Now pick two different colored strands of beads and copy/paste them each on their own layer,  The top layer flip and mirror. Now position both layers on the bottom left and when you're satisfied with how they look merge the top layer down.  Now drag the layer of beads down to just above the bottom layer. Open jesterdoll02, resize 40 percent, place it on the bottom left, add a drop shadow.

Add your text with a nice drop shadow, your watermark and copyright information.  With all layers open, merge visible.

Open badges01, 05 and 06, resize all of them 20 percent. Copy/paste them each on their own layer, adjust sizes and positioning with the deform tool.  Once you have them how you like them, close your bottom layer and merge visible. Select all/float/defloat/modify/select selection borders, outside should be ticked, a check in anti-alias, border width 8.

Open the glitter that was supplied in Animation Shop, should be 3 frames. Edit/select all/copy. Go back to PSP and paste animation in multiple images. Click on the background color and on the materials palette go to patterns.  Scroll to the top of the patterns and you will see your three purple glitter images.  Select the first image, angle 0, scale 100. Highlight your top layer, use your flood fill tool and right click into the selection. Close that top layer. Open your materials palette again and in the patterns select the second glitter image. Highlight your second layer and flood fill the selection.  Close your second layer. Back to the materials palette and select your third glitter image.  Make sure you third layer is highlighted and flood fill that selection. Now you can select none. Close the third layer.  Click on your bottom layer and crop away the excess white background of your image as close to the tag as you can without cutting off any drop shadows or the background mask.

Animation Shop

Now open your top layer (the bottom layer should also still be open) Click on edit/copy merged.  Then paste it into Animation Shop as a new animation.  Close your top layer and open your second layer, copy merged and paste After Current Frame. Close your second layer and open your third layer, copy merged and paste After Current Frame.  File/save as/name your tag, next, next, next, finish.  You’re done!

Thanks for trying my tutorial.  Hope you enjoyed it!
